Our cuisine, like our country, is a mix of different ethnicities. There is no single Colombian cuisine, but many diverse regional cuisines. Each region has their own specialties. In them, indigenous and Spanish ingredients are mixed with different African, Arab and Spanish preparations.

The main elements of the Colombian diet are tuber, particularly potatoes and cassava, complemented by meat or fish. Among the whole grains, mainly rice and corn are consumed, and corn and wheat are used as flour as well. The different varieties of banana are an important element in the Colombian diet, while beans, peas and lentils are never missing in most kitchens.

Colombia has a wide variety of fruits. Many fruits considered exotic elsewhere are common in the forests and fields of Colombia. The climate and geography also favors the growth of a wide variety of crops and a freshwater and seawater fish.

Bogota is a cosmopolitan city by gastronomic standards. In addition to typical Colombian restaurants, you can find international cuisine restaurants suited for all budgets.

In Bogota people usually take three meals: breakfast is served in restaurants and cafes until 9:00 or 10:00 am, lunch is served between 12:00 and 3:00 pm and dinner is served in the evening until 11:00 pm. Some people also take light mid-morning and afternoon snacks.

Some traditional places are: “La Puerta Falsa” in calle 11 with carrera 7, offering chocolate with cheese and “almojábanas”, “aguadepanela” with cheese, tamales, scrambled eggs called "pericos", milk based desserts and sweets and other traditional goodies; You can have chocolate at “La Florida”  in calle 21 with carrera 7, or visit “ Yanuba”, a restaurant and tea room on calle 122 with carrera 23.

At “Chapinero”, you can find “Las Margaritas”, a restaurant known for their delicious “empanadas” and other traditional dishes. “Barrios Unidos” is known for its desserts while the “Restrepo” neighborhood and the “Centro Internacional” are known for their fish dishes.
